The Israeli Basketball Super League Administration Ltd (BSL). is a non profit organization, founded in 2002 with the purpose of upgrading Israeli Basketball and improving its level of management, according to the highest standards customary in the world.
The objectives of the Administration are to allow the Super League members to act independently in respect resolutions pertaining to games of the league, the marketing of broadcasting rights and recruitment of sponsors.
In addition to the commercial companies support the teams directly, the Administration reached long term Sponsorship Agreements with both local and international brand companies such as: NIKE, DELL, and the Israeli Sport Betting Board, which is the main BSL sponsor.
The 2008/09 BSL season started on October 26th and will reach its peak on May 19 – 21/2009 with the third BSL Final-Four event in the NOKIA AREANA in Tel-Aviv.
Prior to the league season, the BSL held the "WINNER CUP" pre-season tournament which took place in Jerusalem and included the top eight ranked BSL teams.
THE TEAMS
Among the BSL teams are The Maccabi Electra Tel-Aviv, Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem,Hapoel Holon, Ironi Iscar Nahariya, Altsuler Saham Gilboa/Galil Elyon, Maccabi Rishon Le zion, Beni Hasharon, Ironi Ramat-Gan, Ironi Ashkelon, Maccabi Haifa, Ironi Kiryat Ata and Gindi Givat Shmuel.
The teams are spread throughout Israel from Ashkelon in the south to the Upper Nahariya in the north. League games take place in 12 arenas, accommodating audiences from 1,500 and up to 11,000 seats.
BSL's initial and ultimate goal has and continues to be the creation and implementation of professional and international standards not only in playing the game, but also in the way it is managed and marketed.
Indeed, throughout its short life span, BSL Israel has already succeeded in raising the bar and setting an example of innovative efficient and professional sports management not only to other basketball teams in Israel, but also to various other sport sections.
